About the Learning Centers

The Learning Centers (TLC) provide a variety of free academic support services to help students succeed at MiraCosta, including tutoring, writing support, and workshops. They also have course material, textbooks, laptops, calculators, anatomy models, and other resources available for checkout use in the TLC at the Oceanside and San Elijo Campuses.

The TLC is located inside the Learning Commons on each campus:

Academic Support & Innovation Center (ASIC)

The Academic Support & Innovation Center (ASIC) provides student support for course content and helps students develop effective learning skills in a supportive environment. Services include supplemental instruction (SI), drop-in tutoring, appointment tutoring, embedded tutoring, and student success workshops. Courses supported include accounting, art, business, counseling, CSIT, design, economics, history, music, political science, psychology, sociology, and more.

STEM Learning Centers (STEMLC)

The Nordson Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Learning Centers (STEMLC) provide tutoring for students enrolled in math, statistics, chemistry, physics, biology, biotechnology, physical science, computer science, and most other STEM courses. Services include drop-in and appointment tutoring, embedded tutoring, test prep workshops, and guided group study sessions. 

Writing Center (WC)

The Writing Center (WC) supports all readers and writers, whether students are developing their writing skills or just looking for a second opinion on a draft. From papers, presentations, and transfer or scholarship essays to multimedia projects, poems for a campus open mic night, or strategies for approaching class readings, the WC is here to support students. Students can drop in, make an appointment, or submit a paper or draft for video feedback.
